Description

Online, Hands-On Plant Propagation Course

For the past six years, I’ve been growing a collection of thousands of woody trees and shrubs for the Forest City Plants. In this time, I’ve learnt a variety of techniques to collect, clean, store, and propagate plants from seeds and cuttings. Now I want to teach you how to grow your trees and shrubs.

In this online propagation course, I will show you how to collect and grow hundreds of plants – with a focus on trees and shrubs – from the comfort of your home, garden, or balcony. We will cover basic plant anatomy and taxonomy, seed and cutting collection and storage, germination requirements, and multiple propagation techniques.

Hands-on Learning with Provided Seeds

When you sign up for this course, you will receive a dozen seeds from six unique plant species; each requiring different treatments to germinate. Over the Winter, I will show you how to store, stratify, scarify, and grow your seeds.

In addition to the seeds provided, I will give you the techniques and skills needed to collect and propagate plants of your choosing.

Course Format

The course will run from October 2020 until May 2021 and generally require 5 to 10 Course Format (October 2020 – May 2021).

The course will be delivered through an online community platform and completed at your own pace. New lessons will be released each month with content corresponding to specific tasks required at that time to germinate and grow your seeds. A scheduled monthly online meet-up will allow us to touch base, answer questions, provide face-to-face guidance, and to demonstrate specific techniques.

Included Seeds:

  1. Honeylocust or Kentucky Coffee Tree
  2. White Russian Mulberrry
  3. Pawpaw
  4. Black or White Walnut
  5. Local Gojiberry
  6. Japanese Flowering Quince

*Seeds may vary depending on your growing zone and availability. To receive seeds, students much be within Canada as shipping across international borders requires additional paperwork.
